Record Company Logo
This is my companies logo which I shall place on my digipak for the song Once A Liar (Always A Fake).
The inspiration for the name comes form the now disbanded band named A Static Lullaby. I am a fan of the band and wanted to incorporate something of them into my project, and as such I thought the name "Static Lullabies" was a good choice when it came to a record label name. The reason I have taken a like to the name "Static Lullabies" is due to the fact, in my own mind, it takes on a sinister kind of name, which is often also associated with the genre of music I have chosen. The reason I believe it takes on a sinister mood is due to the fact a lullaby is something which an adult shall read to a child when they are about to go to sleep in order to get the to rest, yet the connotations of the word "Static" bring to mind a horrible, crackling noise which causes distress and often a sense of unrest. Other connotations of the word are being at rest or having no motion, angry/heated criticism and also an interference/obstruction. These connotations create an oxymoron, due to the fact that a lullaby is meant to be a form of relaxing or soothing whereas static is a word which has connotations of unrest and disturbing, which creates a nice contrast. The image is also a piece of the logo I like, due to the fact it seems like someone is trapped within something and cannot escape which, in a deeper reading, could be seen as the story behind the song choice [Once A Liar (Always A Fake)] as its about a person being stuck in a relationship with not much escape, then when they do escape they're left fighting the feelings of worthlessness and not being strong enough to carry on.

Pixel-man
This is my photoshopped image in which I had to create a 'Pixel-man'. The skills I gained off this is how to efficiently use photoshop and how to correctly use layers.

Opie of Me
This is an Opie of me using Photoshop. In order to create this I had to take a picture of myself using Photobooth on the Mac. Then I had to open up the image with Photoshop, after which I had to create different layers to do with my image ie. Hair, Eyes, Shirt, Face etc. Once I had the layers I had to use the Lasso/Magnetic Lasso to go around the selected piece, after which I had to fill in with a colour. The after-image had to reflect the original image of me.

Music Video Analysis
Asking
Alexandria – Through Sin And Self-Destruction (Reckless & Relentless, To
The Stage, Dear Insanity)
Genre – Rock songs/metal-core. Drinking, drugs, sex which is stereotypical of the ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ lifestyle. Live performance by the band during Dear Insanity. Dear Insanity links to the beginning of the video, To The Stage links as the band are told their set has been moved forward and they need to get ‘to the stage’.
Narrative – The video is linear. Narrated by band (follows the bands members). Cross-cuts between the band members to show what they are doing during the progression of the short film. Incorporates the theme of the stereotypical ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ lifestyle.
Audience – Target Audience – 15 – 30 yr old male due to female actresses taking part. Female audience may be attracted to band members and therefore become interested in the band.
Representation – Strong males, confident, loud, violent. Negative representation of drinking and drug use. Stereotypical of ‘Rockstars’. Live performance during the end shows a stereotypical ‘metal-core’ live performance with lots of energy.

Andrew Goodwin 'Dancing in the Distraction Factory' (1992)
In His Book Dancing in the Distraction Factory Andrew Goodwin points out characteristics and features that can be found in music videos. Looking at a selection of music videos which can be recognised
1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics.
(e.g. stage performance in metal videos, dance routine for boy/girl band, aspiration in Hip Hop). For example, this helps show you the definitive characteristics of a certain genre, for example in a metal music video their stage performance should be reflected, in a hip hop music video you would expect the artist to be mentioning how they came from the bottom and worked their way up.
2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals. The lyrics are represented with images.
(either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting). If the music video is a narrative then the music video will help portray the song in the light in which the band/artist wished it to be, instead of leaving the song ambiguous and leaving people guessing what the meaning is.
3. There is a relationship between music and visuals. The tone and atmosphere of the visual reflects that of the music. (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting). Again if the music video is a narrative then the music video will help portray the song in the light in which the band/artist wished it to be, instead of leaving the song ambiguous and leaving people guessing what the meaning is.
4. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style). Artists of the R'n'B genre may create a motif of a dance routine or such things, whereas a metal band/artist may use a certain style of guitar, an example being Synyster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold and his signature Schecter guitar which has a black body and silver pinstripes.
5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, mirrors, stages, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body. Many videos contain a sexual portrayal of the female body, however it is more noticeable in genres such as R'n'B or Rap than it is in Rock or Metal, however these genres use the idea of a female and sexualise them, just not as often as other genres.
6. There are often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other music videos etc). Artists that have done this include Blink-182, Son of Dork. Blink-182 took camera angles and ideas from other music videos and combined them to create their video to All The Small Things. Son of Dork's name comes from a scene in a movie called Problem Child when a chant of 'Son of Dork' is used. Their songs also include lyrics to do with other movies or bands, such as the bands song Murdered in The Mosh which includes references to bands like Janes Addiction and Nirvana (a reference to Kurt Cobain is made). The song Ticket Outta Loserville (their debut single) makes reference to a 'Star Trek shrine'.
Using Goodwin's ideas choose a music video of a similar genre to your and write a detailed analysis addressing the 6 features as outlined by Goodwin. Don't forget to include discussion of the technical aspects as well such as mise en scene, camera movement, position, angle and composition as well as editing techniques used.

Purpose of a Music Video
The purpose of a music video is to promote the bands/artists music and help increase revenue streams. A music video may also help create and portray a musicians star image and help them to create an identity, a third purpose a music video may serve is that it may create a narrative for the song and reflect the lyrics which are being performed. A music video may also serve the purpose of entertainment, for example if a song has a music video that is memorable people will start to like the song and will remember the song.
